Disreputable Witch

Fashion for Life is the major fundraiser in SL of the American Cancer Society, as presented by BOSL. The fabulous event is kicking in tomorrow, March 9th, and will run through March 17th. An overview of the event can be found here. BOSL radio will be streaming across all nine sims (which are GORGEOUS, by the way) in partnership with the club vaguely known as The Velvet.

David Lynch Tribute: Lost Highway
You will NEVER have me.
Where does one begin to explain one’s fascination with a film like David Lynch’s Lost Highway? How does one say something that comes close to gesturing toward the power this work has over one’s imagination? This movie is, first and foremost, an intense aesthetic experience, informed by film noir sensibilities, the sensibilities filtered through and trapped in the dark ice of Lynch’s mind: the lighting and the shadow work are impeccable, the music used powerfully and evocatively. Except that it also happens to be one of the strangest narratives ever created. Rejecting certain views is as good a start as any: to interpret this film metaphysically (i.e., to say that there are two really existing parallel worlds that wondrously gather, if not trap, the disintegrating, fracturing sense) is to defang it entirely, it’s to rob it of its psychic and/or social acuity (depends on who you’re talking to), not even to mention of its profound bleakness. As metaphysical interpretations are prone to do with just about everything else. (Of course, if I were to talk about Twin Peaks, the question “Does The Lodge exist?” would be answered differently.)

Jezebel II

The nomadic Jezebel, a zero cipher flickering in and out of the vastly different centuries, follows ghostly, marble-like paths, with the night moving in her veins, with the night forming an exquisite chilling mask on her face. The mask may never be cast aside, not even torn off, not even that.
For the mind is the true receptacle of the night.
