Come to bed

Mesh body addicts was the first event I found when I came back to SL  a few months ago. It was where I got my favourite mesh head and probably the one where I spent the most that I have ever spent.

This round features this sexy blanket from The Annex. It’s open at the back and drapes sexily. I love it and have been wondering around my parcel all morning wearing it. Whatever will the neighbours think?

The event runs until December 10th if you want to go and grab yours. Take your wallet, that event is filled with goodies.

No More

I am always at a loss about what to put here. I don’t particularly make images with words in mind, nor do I want this blog to become a stream of compliments about creativity and imagination. That feels fake, and I don’t want to do fake.

I love to make art. It doesn’t have to be amazing art, but to take an idea and turn it into something real is amazing to me. That is why I love to create, and why I love to use the creations of others to realise my own ideas.

The biggest compliment for me is when a designer likes my work in return. Which is why I am ecstatic to now be able to call myself an official blogger for Songbird, Veechi and The Annex. Thank you to those designers for believing in me.

Scared of my shadow

The debate rages on in the blogging community. What is a sponsor? What is a sponsored post? Why would any blogger stoop so low?

It’s a simple question that is easy to answer. Money.

As the  gridwide shopping calendar fills with new events, blind boxes, sales and release days it is easy to watch the cost of blogging rise with each passing month.

A blogger is taken more seriously if they stay ahead of the trends, blogging the major events as soon as possible. Take Luxe Box for example. The bloggers and vloggers who are considered major players are those who can offer in depth coverage within the first few hours of release. This can often mean staying awake into the early hours to get the post out on time.

The other end of this spectrum is the creators and event owners who need timely coverage to build their customer bases. Advertising can become expensive. Therefore it makes sense to create a list of willing, topical bloggers who can help reach an audience.

It is only natural that these two parties would come together to support each other. Bloggers receive products for free, and often before release. Creators receive targeted publicity and access to a larger audience.

But when does this mutual support become sponsorship? When is the line crossed?

This blog is not sponsored.

I apply to become an official blogger for some stores and events to simply offset the costs of doing the thing that I enjoy. I am not paid to blog. I don’t allow stores/events to tell me how I should present their products, now how I should review them. If I want to post negatively I reserve the right to do that.

In ‘real world’ media this would be considered a review. A company sends their product to the media outlet and in return they get an honest review. The onus is on the company to ensure their product is of adequate quality to gain a positive one.

A sponsored post works differently. A company sends their product and notice of what they would like the ‘review’ to say. These pieces are usually marked as ‘sponsored’ reviews and are paid articles along the lines of advertisements.

In SL, in my opinion at least, the line is crossed when one of the two parties attempts to hold a higher level of control over the other. If a store was to rule that only their items were to be used in a post, or that a blogger must blog every release sent their way. This would be sponsorship. As with everything it comes down to the people involved what they are willing to accept.

Regardless of the mechanics it is this relationship that keeps the shopping community up to date. As long as bloggers keep their reviews honest there is no way that this can be a bad thing.

When the planet spins, it sings like the wings of a dragonfly M. Craft

I’m sure you have noticed by now that my style tends to be a little on the – darker – side. But those close to me know that I love a wide range of things. Fantasy styles being one of them. I love anything that tickles my creative tastebuds.

Fantasy Gacha Carnival is a newer event to me. One that I felt the need to explore once I received this amazing dragonfly outfit from The Annex. I am wearing the RARE selection but trust me when I say that every single option is just as beautiful. In fact I will likely use the colourful wings in future Flickr pictures. Collect the whole set and you’re really spoilt for choice.

Veechi - Glitter Frosted Liner @ N21

There are some creators who simply cannot do wrong. Every release looks great, fits like a glove and is, somehow, the one thing that you didn’t realise your second life was missing.

Aiubrey Snoodle of Veechi is one of those creators.

I’m not going to be able to say more than these images can about these eye makeups. You can get them at N21 when it opens on the 21st November and both come in three exclusive shades.

Morphs – The frankenphoto

By wendyriaxik – It’s a thing. Visit Morphs – The frankenphoto for original post.

Morph

Morphs. I have been asking on various social media platforms for opinions and I have been hard pushed to find anybody who admits to liking them.

So why are ‘morphs’ so prevalent within Second Life photography? And how do we make them go away?

A few years ago the grid had very little in terms of lighting and the options for hair and skin was much more limited than it is now.  There were no mesh body parts and avatars had many issues in certain areas. Looking at those avatar images now makes it easy to  see that it was more difficult to get a high quality profile picture.

This may have been what led photographers to patch features from avatar snapshots onto real world portraits. People wanted the best profile images and vendor shots and taking realistic features to fix blemishes and glitches gave them a chance at standing out.  Done well, this would create a likeness of the avatar with realistic lighting, hair and skin.

Unfortunately matching these ingredients well is no easy task and for every ‘good’ morph the community was subjected to dozens of strange, abstract images that gave the entire craft a terrible reputation. The general opinion of those who responded to my questions called them ‘weird’, ‘disjointed’ and ‘ugly’.

This negativity is not helped by the artists who take their base images from photographs of celebrities and models. It is mostly impossible to find the source of the images used in morphs and to check it’s legality. This leads to many customers of ‘morph artists’ facing damaged reputations and ridicule. It is even possible for a store owner using morphed vendor images to face legal action should the owner of the base photograph decide to claim against them.

Over the years Second Life and graphics programs such as Photoshop have become much more advanced and powerful. Along with windlight and mesh we have gained the ability to create almost photo-realistic images with a fraction of the effort required to create a ‘morph’.

If you are considering having a quality profile picture taken Strawberry Singh has a list of reputable photographers on her blog. There are also many on Flickr, but please be certain to check their portfolio for quality before you hand over any lindens.

If you do like ‘morphs’ let me know why in the comments. I’d love to hear more opinions.
