On Tuesday 14th March Linden Lab officially launched the all new Second Life community platform to the world. At first glance the new community platform looks really nice with a whole new page layout with the main pages along the top. It’s now easier to view the forums, knowledge base, blogs, answers and to keep track of all activity.

Here is what the new Second Life community platform looks like now. Take a look today and spread the word. 🙂

There is now a new search box (with advanced search) where you can find out everything within the Second Life community platform. You can either search all the content, blog entries, knowledge base articles or by members.

Advanced search

You can search by the content type, date created, last updated and much more here.

These are still early days for the new launched Second Life community platform and work is still in progress to make it even better in the weeks ahead. So far I like the new updated version of the community platform and I believe in time this will will improve the Second Life experience for everyone.

Do you like the new Second Life community platform or do you prefer the old version layouts instead ?

Second Life new community platform launches

By Inara Pey – Inara Pey: Living in a Modem World. Visit Second Life new community platform launches for original post.

On Tuesday, March 14th, the new community platform for Second Life officially launched. Powered by Invision Power Services, Inc,  it had been hoped the platform would go live at the end of February 2017, but some teething problems coupled with the amount of data which needed to be transferred over from the older Lithium-powered slowed […]

FLASH! SL Community Forums Are BACK!

By – Across The Grid With Lindal Kidd!. Visit FLASH! SL Community Forums Are BACK! for original post.

Yes indeed.  And they are…um, well, according to Linden Lab…new and improved.

New they most certainly are.  The new organization and interface are VERY different from the old forums.  I’m not going to say anything bad about them here, at least not yet.  We’re all going to need some time to explore them and get used to the new layout.

No, I take it back.  I will make one complaint now:  The various Search functions seem to be VERY wonky.  However, I’m hoping LL will be able to fine tune this over the coming weeks.  They managed to fix a lot of problems with the recent Search update to the Marketplace, which is encouraging.

SL Community Platform Update: The Knowledge Base Goes Live

By Daniel Voyager – Daniel Voyager’s Blog. Visit SL Community Platform Update: The Knowledge Base Goes Live for original post.

First preview of the revamped Knowledge Base

Late last month Linden Lab announced the start of revamp of the Second Life community pages including the forums, blogs, answers, knowledge base etc. On Friday 10th March the lab made a small announcement saying “Currently, we have turned on the Knowledge Base. Blogs and Forums will come soon – but for now those areas are still under construction. We will update as those become available“.

It’s good to see the Knowledge Base is back up and running again because it’s been offline since late last month. I would imagine next week the lab will switch on the blogs and forums etc hopefully.

The home page of the Second Life community platform now looks like this as of Sunday 12th March 2017.

Stay tuned for further updates soon.

Second Life Community Forums Offline

Many of you have probably noticed this, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.  The week before last, Linden Lab announced that they were updating the Forums on the Second Life website for a “new and more user friendly” experience.

That’s (maybe) good news…for years, residents have complained about the shortcomings of the current forums (which replaced a set of forums that MOST of us rather liked and were comfortable with.)  Of course, until we actually see and use the new setup, we won’t know for sure whether it’s really good news or not.

Anyway, the plan was for the forums to be down for just three or four days while the new software was put in place and the old content migrated over to the new platform.  But, as is often the case, that estimate proved to be over-optimistic.  LL posted a notice saying that the switch would be complete by Friday…and that deadline was missed too.

The forums are still down as I write this, with a blog post by LL apologizing for the delay and asking us to be patient…

I wouldn’t have believed that I’d miss the opportunity to tell someone, for the umpteenth time, to reboot their router and do a clean install of the viewer.

Latest Community Update – (6th March 2017)

The new revamped Second Life community platform was due to go live last week but due to the large complexity of the Community migration it’s taking longer to complete apparently. For days the blog, forums, KB, Answers etc have been offline. The wait is almost over I think!

The lab have been keeping everyone updated regularly on the Community migration on the Second Life Status page under the Community Platform Maintenance section.

Today the lab are still continuing with the community migration. Hopefully the new community platform might go live possibly this week or next week. We will have to wait and see.

Some pages are still offline

First Early Preview

The lab are currently revamping the Second Life community platform and it’s expected the website maintenance to be completed sometime either today or tomorrow.

For the past week all the forum threads have been set into read-only mode but the good news is that when the new Second Life community platform goes fully live everyone will be able to post again.

If you visit any of the community pages now like the official Second Life blog, the forums, the knowledge base etc it will appear to be offline with a message saying “Our Community is Under Construction” & “We’ll be back soon with new and exciting community features”.

Under Construction

Hopefully we will see the new Second Life community platform very soon. I will blog later when the lab have rolled out the new look community pages.

Stay tuned! 🙂
