I like going to the beach. I like being at the beach. I just don’t like coming home from the beach.

Mainly because the beach insists on coming with you and no matter how hard you try you carry the sand with you. I also don’t like how hot the sand gets and how much there is of it between you and the car when it is time to go home … with the hours that have passed between when you got there and when you leave to go home.

And the Australians all walk along like they have genetically modified feet that are not burning … it is either that or there is some ritual involved with the drinking of copious amounts of beer, carrying on like a porkchop, and salt water that will one day be in some spiritual acts of the ancient next to fire walking.

I also don’t like the way I scream when I walk back to the car or the way I run. I have become accustomed to running prettily with my avatar and it is kind of a let down to look like a complete tool in real life.

The only comfort is that I am so completely white and run so fast (at least in my mind) that I probably appear as just a blur or white light and most people think they just had some religious experience or something.

Remember in Sound of Music when Julie Andrews/Maria made the kids outfits out of the curtains? The kids all felt swell, they hung out in the trees, evaded the Nazis,  and burst into song and danced around all over the place??

That does not translate so well in real life.

It is kind of embarrassing when you get some awesome new outfit and you go to a nursing home or your great aunts mausoleum of a house and find out that the very same material that is in your stunning new dress is also a horse hair stuffed chair, the curtains, or the wall paper.

Like a camel showing up wearing the exact same outfit that you have on would be easier to cope with.

I am not sure how a girl’s self esteem ever recovers from being at a seniors home and disappearing into the wallpaper so that no-one even notices you. I mean when Mabel with the purple hair, breasts down to her knees and 3 teeth is the one everyone is hitting on … it is pretty crushing.

And if Great Aunt Irene cannot even find you on the couch, it means there is a good chance the visit will not get counted in the overall visit scorekeeping book, which means you could lose out by one visit when it comes to the will and eating all those water cress sandwiches and stale liver marshmallow surprise cookies ….

You know we greatly underestimate the influence that teachers have over our lives … and school … it impacts us too. I mean if we are really fair about it.

I am not forcing you to be fair.  If you feel strongly that you wanna continue to be unfair, like if today sucks for you, then by all means, you go ahead and be a bitch … it is your right as an adult.

I think back to my grade two teacher who pointed out to us that an easy way to tell the difference between “desert” and “dessert” is that we always want 2 helpings of “dessert” and so it has two “s’s.”

How brilliant was that??

And what a life lesson.

I cannot tell you the number of times that helped me from having 2 helpings of camel … or sand …

The Avaricious and the Bellicose. Come on, we all know them, they are just otherwise known as Haters or Internet trolls and if you are a Second Life model or a dedicated blogger, sooner or later you’re going to get up close and personal with one. Human behavior has been as it is for century’s now, it’s not some new phenomenon; envy is one of our biggest challenges in life. And honestly, being nice or not nice, doing or not doing, someone somewhere will hate you no matter what your response is. It’s just a sad fact of life. So right off the bat, don’t be immature and think everyone will like you. Do the best to walk quietly with all whom you encounter but when you meet a hater realize, envy sucks but everyone liking you ain’t gonna happen. Distancing your emotions from the hurt allows you to be free to look at the world without those little pink sunglasses.

Someone asked me what we did in Canada for Easter. That questions always leaves me torn …. between being a good citizen and telling the truth.

I should tell them we colour our Easter eggs, attend church, have family dinner, eat chocolate and do the whole fluffy bunny and little chick thing. I should pull out Hallmark cards and point out all the Canadians playing the role of people embracing the wonders of spring with babbling brooks and birds singing and blue skies with white fluffy clouds. But we have the internet now …

And how do I hide the pictures of people in their winter gear trying to shovel through the snow in minus 40 degree weather to find their cars? Any bunnies or chickies in that mess are clearly dead, and the children are fighting over pieces of coal they can use to warm their hands.

It isn’t exactly a “Come visit Canada in the springtime” kind of Easter vacation invite now is it?
