Ever since the kids all moved away and did not leave us their forwarding addresses, we try to find alternative things to do on holidays. It’s not as easy as it sounds, what do you do on a day when you normally are surrounded by family behaving badly and eating you out of house and home???

This year I figured we should organize the neighbourhood into a giant Easter Egg Hunt. Most of them were away but we did manage to find a few hiding behind their blinds and in their bomb shelters when we went door to door. Good thing we were here when we saw those things being built or we might have bought that they weren’t home.

In my mind a few can be 2. 

We ended up with Jack and Betty … but hey … that is 2 more people than just me and hubby and being as we hid all the eggs we had to find someone.   Effective Easter egg hunts require someone to be the bunnyer and other people to be the bunnyies.

The brief:

“For your next challenge, please create an outfit inspired by any animal you would like. This is an exercise that should honor the animals that inspired the outfits, so wearing the animal is not a good idea.

You need to look like models, not like animals. Our hint on what animal you were inspired by can be subtle: maybe it is the fabric of your outfit, or the accessories … maybe the hair, etc.

Imagine this is a collection you will show to an ANIMAL PROTECTION ORGANIZATION.  You will be honoring these beautiful animals, and not look like you killed the animal! Be creative in your presentation: Think about your walk, poses and overall look. Above all, look like you are definitely a TOP model!”
I chose the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo as my animal inspiration. I have always loved these endearing birds, they look so elegant and dapper with their pure white plumage and dazzling yellow crests.

I put together a couture look in the finest white vegan leather and soft tulle using pieces from 3 designers, and topped the chic white ensemble with a hat recolored in the brightest yellow to echo the cockatoo’s crest. The vintage feel of the look is given a modern twist with the daring cut of the jacket, and the McQueen inspired Armadillo boots.» View author and full post…

I wish they would make up their minds so that I would know what my opinion is and I can get on with telling everyone what they should and shouldn’t be doing.

First it was all about we should have a tan and then it was no don’t get a tan because as nice as it looks it sort of fades with chemo. Then is was get a tan in a tanning bed until they said nope – incredibly unsanitary AND even worse than the sun. Then they wanted to spray us all down with a  fake tan until someone said ‘back to the chemo thing due to all the chemicals.’ Meanwhile we are still watching shows where they hose down children with the stuff so they can win another sparkly crown to put in their mom’s china cabinet. Don’t you hate pink children? Orange is much much better.

So then it was all about slathering on the sun screen to protect our skin until now they say nope chemo city again AGAIN we are all Vitamin D deficient.

I think people had something with the whole – less complicated life stuff – you know where common sense kind of prevailed and people got on with living.

Ok I am going to have to digress momentarily from your regular show of Christmas tips and hints and share something in the realm of “OMG, I cannot believe he just said that!” Think of it kind of like when the news interrupts your favourite show to tell you something a politician just did only don’t swear at the computer because it is still ME … you still get ME … it is just I am another favourite show interrupting this favourite show.

I was doing this picture and my hubby stops by the computer, coffee in hand, resting the other one on the back of my chair, watching me and he says that Bliss is looking a little pale, she should probably get a bit more sun. So I asked him what he wanted me to do … put a sun lamp on the computer?

He then leaned closer to the computer screen and said, “Oh I see the problem,” and pointed at her white shoes and said, “Hasn’t it already been Labour Day in the States?”

And he “tsked” me.

What man doesn’t know that he NEVER quotes fashion rules back to his wife … EVER?

So I parroted him and said, “Ya well …
